Leading Contenders For Pennzoil 400 Success. It isn’t completely surprising to see that the Vegas Odds for NASCAR betting are dominated by drivers that have previously won this event. Kevin Harvick is the current favorite in the market, as he will be looking for a third success in the Pennzoil 400.

The unpredictable NASCAR season continues this week in Las Vegas after producing three straight longshot winners. William Byron got the win in the last race of the Florida swing in Miami. The three winning drivers this season, Michael McDowell, Christopher Bell and Byron have a combined four career wins, which shows you anybody has a shot this season.

That paradigm “should” shift this week as the NASCAR Cup Series heads out West to Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The Pennzoil 400 historically has been a race where former NASCAR champions dominated. In the past nine races a former champion has seen the checkered flag, including the past two where Joey Logano won.

This trend is mostly because Las Vegas Motor Speedway is your traditional 1.5 mile oval track. As I mentioned last week, it’s a track where success is usually found by veteran drivers. That said, there are seven former NASCAR champions in the field. Five of those drivers already won here in Las Vegas, including Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano and Kevin Harvick, who has two wins during the nine race stretch.

While I expect the winner to emerge from those seven former champions, there are a few drivers who could break that streak. I’ll give you some of those drivers to buy and sell at the Pennzoil 400 in Las Vegas.

BUY:

Chase Elliott: (Odds: 8/1)

One former champion, who has yet to see victory lane in Las Vegas, is last year’s champion, Chase Elliott. The #9 car doesn’t have great finishing results here, but looking at how Elliot’s performed during the race may paint a better picture. Last year, he dominated the race leading 70 laps and winning both stages. A valve stem issue on his tire caused Chase Elliot to finish 26th.

The following Vegas race in the Spring, Elliott led 73 laps and won stage two of the race, before a late caution and pit stop led to a 22nd place finish. So, to put it all in perspective, Vegas wasn’t so lucky for him last year, even though Chase Elliot arguably had the fastest car in both races.

Joey Logano: (Odds: 8/1)

I’m not sure if it’s Vegas lucky vibes or good juju from Joey Loganzo’s sponsor (Pennzoil), but the #22 car has seen back to back victories in this race. If you take out last year’s spring race in Vegas, Logano finished in the top-10 seven straight times, including five top-4 finishes.

The Penske Fords usually bring their best race cars to the sponsored race and that’s shown in the results. Logano’s teammate Ryan Blaney should have won last year’s race, but a late caution spoiled his win resulting in Logano’s victory. The third teammate of the Penske trio, Brad Koselowski, scored Vegas wins in 2016 and 2014. Expect to see solid races from all three, but I think the #22 car is currently outperforming the others.

Alex Bowman: (Odds: 20/1)

If the trend of unexpected winners continues in Las Vegas, Alex Bowman may be the driver to come away with the win. The Arizona native has not only been good at this Vegas track, he always seems to turn it up on the West Coast.

Last year, Bowman was racing for the win against Ryan Blaney with five laps to go, before a caution changed everything. His teammates Chase Elliott and Kyle Larson have great history at this racetrack and William Byron is coming off a win last week. The momentum of Hendrick Motorsports just may continue.

SELL:

Denny Hamlin: (Odds: 9/1)

You would have thought by now Denny Hamlin would have a NASCAR championship, but this week he’s one of the outsiders trying to end that streak of nine straight winners in Vegas.

Looking at Hamlin’s history at this track, it’s pretty subpar. He did have his best performance here this past September, where he led 121 laps with a 3rd place finish, but outside of that, he only scored two top-10 finishes since 2012.

Vegas ranks as Hamlin’s second worst track based on his performances in the NASCAR Cup Series. Look for the #11 car to rebound the following weeks, when they head to Phoenix then Atlanta.

LONGSHOT QUICK PICKS:

Austin Dillion: (Odds: 40/1)

The RCR cars have shown some speed through three races this season. Austin Dillion finished 3rd in the Daytona 500, and his teammate, Tyler Reddick, finished 2nd last week at Homestead.

I think they’ll ride that momentum and continue to bring a fast race car to the Vegas racetrack. Last year Dillion finished 4th in the Pennzoil 400 and had a decent run in the race in September.

The NASCAR Cup Series moves to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Sunday afternoon for the Pennzoil 400 at 3:30 p.m. ET. Below, we analyze the Pennzoil 400 betting odds and lines, with NASCAR picks and tips.

The weather won’t be a problem like it was in Daytona last weekend, when a surprise rain storm ended up pushing the race to Monday. The haulers had one less day to travel across the country, subsequently canceling the mid-week hauler parade down The Strip, but the cars and drivers will be ready to go Sunday with no interruptions.

Pennzoil 400 Las Vegas 2020

The winner of the most recent Cup race at Vegas, Joe Gibbs Racing driver Martin Truex Jr. (+550), is among the favorites at this race. Only Vegas-born driver and teammate Kyle Busch (+500) and Stewart-Haas Racing’s Kevin Harvick (+500) have shorter odds.

MTJ has posted two wins in 16 career starts in Vegas, with five top-5 showings and eight top-10 finishes with a 10.9 Average-Finish Position (AFP). He’ll be a very popular selection this weekend. Truex also tops the charts with a 123.8 Driver Rating across the past five starts in Vegas, according to NASCAR’s Loop Data. Busch has a win in 17 career starts, posting nine top-10 showings and a 12.7 AFP.

Penske Racing driver Joey Logano (+700) will also be a pick many gravitate toward, as he has a 5.0 AFP and 116.8 Driver Rating across his past five starts at LVMS while running a circuit-best 95.4 percent of his laps inside the Top 15 during the impressive span. He also has eight consecutive top-10 showings at the track.

Logano’s teammate Brad Keselowski (+600) is also a solid play, as he has three straight finishes of third or best at Vegas, including a win. He is a nice selection to finish in the Top 3 (+150).

2020 Pennzoil 400 longshot bets

Keselowski and Logano’s teammate, Ryan Blaney (+2000), kicked off his 2020 campaign with a second-place run at Daytona. He heads into this one with a 95.6 Driver Rating over the past five Vegas starts while posting an 8.8 AFP. He has finished seventh or better in five of his past six starts at the track, too, including three top-5 showings in the previous four.

Hendrick Motorsports’ William Byron (+2500) and Alex Bowman (+3000) finished in the Top 10 in the second Vegas race last season, with Byron seventh and Bowman sixth. Those two are worth a small-unit bet with rather moderate odds. Tossing a little change on their veteran teammate, seven-time Cup champ Jimmie Johnson (+3000) is also worth a shot. He has four career wins at Vegas to lead all active drivers, and he is 12th or better in seven of his past 10 starts at the track.
